About this grant

The AES Panama Foundation is the entity responsible for all sustainability and corporate social responsibility matters of the AES group of companies in Panama. Since 1999, AES Panama has maintained operations for 25 years and invested over 90 million dollars in social projects to promote economic and social development in the areas where it operates. The Foundation was formally created in 2020 as a centralized entity to execute sustainable development projects for communities where AES operates. The Foundation's mission is to improve lives through sustainable projects that promote economic and social development of communities where AES group companies operate in Panama. The Foundation focuses on four pillars: access to energy and basic safe, efficient and accessible services; inclusive economic growth through education and entrepreneurship; environmental conservation; and well-being, health and safety of communities.

Eligibility

Projects must be located in the communities of influence of AES plants and construction projects and benefit those communities. Applicants must be organizations or institutions duly constituted in accordance with the laws of Panama. Projects must generate value for communities or respond to real needs, provide sustainable and long-term benefits, align with one of the four strategic pillars and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, generate measurable impact over time, be comprehensive initiatives not addressing specific needs, benefit a significant portion of the community rather than individuals, and be replicable across most localities as appropriate to each community's needs.

How it's scored

All projects must be approved by the Foundation's management and the Ethics and Compliance Officer to ensure alignment with strategic lines of action and compliance with the highest standards of integrity and transparency. Projects are evaluated against nine specific criteria relating to community location, value generation, sustainability, alignment with pillars and SDGs, measurability of impact, comprehensiveness, community benefit scope, replicability, and legal constitution of implementing organizations.
