About this grant
CAPaBLE (Capacity Building for Leadership in the Environment) is the scientific capacity development programme of the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN). It aims to strengthen the ability of scientists, policymakers and practitioners to assess global change issues and to explore options for resolving them in pursuit of sustainability. The programme works at individual, organisational and systemic levels. The page sets out the kinds of activity CAPaBLE supports. These include utilising and strengthening existing capacity, creating opportunities to use or instil capacity, developing new capacity through innovative approaches, and awareness-raising and dissemination for policy and decision-making communities, civil society and the general public. It also covers science-policy interfacing within APN's five thematic areas and priority topics, and capacity development partnerships that contribute to global frameworks such as the UNFCCC Paris Agreement, IPCC, IPBES, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Sendai Framework and the UN Decade of Ocean Science. Science communication aimed at non-science audiences is also supported. The thematic areas are air, land, coasts and oceans; biodiversity and ecosystems; climate; food, water and energy; risk and resilience; and social, economic and governance. The page lists funded capacity development projects, each with a project code and title, covering topics such as marine ecosystem resilience, urban waste management, climate-health resilience, community radio for disaster justice, flood early warning, rice pest management, weather observation networks, wetland conservation and transdisciplinary training for early-career professionals. The page does not state application procedures, eligibility rules, funding amounts, deadlines or evaluation criteria. Those details are presumably held on the linked call-for-proposals pages and in the FAQ, which this page does not contain.
