About this grant
NEFCO finances and implements pioneering projects globally supporting ambitious climate action and sustainable development. The Clean Energy and Cooking portfolio encompasses two primary programmes: the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA), which brings clean and affordable off-grid energy solutions to rural and peri-urban areas in Sub-Saharan Africa with the aim to reach 8.7 million people by 2029, and the Modern Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA), which scales access to modern energy cooking solutions for over 4 million people using green financing mechanisms. Both programmes support private and public entities in Sub-Saharan Africa to expand energy access and improve quality of life. NEFCO also finances demonstration projects to improve the ecological wellbeing of the Baltic Sea through its Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund, and engages with carbon market mechanisms as an innovator in climate finance.
