About this grant

This grant supports demonstration and deployment of advanced hydropower technologies for refurbishing and modernising existing hydropower plants. Projects should improve efficiency and environmental performance whilst aligning with broader energy transition objectives. Grants of up to €8,500,000 per project are available. Eligible applicants include startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, large companies, research institutions, universities and consortia. Projects must be at prototype, pilot or mature scale stage and based in EU member states. Consortia combining technology developers, utilities and research partners are expected to apply. Applications open on 4 August 2027 and close on 1 December 2027.
