About this grant

This Horizon Europe grant supports the development of scientific methods to characterise groundwater ecosystems, their ecological functions, and responses to environmental pressures. The call seeks to advance freshwater biodiversity monitoring and ecosystem management in line with EU water policy objectives. Universities, research institutions, nonprofits and consortia based in EU member states may apply. Projects should develop and validate approaches to assess groundwater ecosystem presence and function, examine how groundwater biodiversity responds to stressors, and contribute to biodiversity indicators and monitoring frameworks aligned with the Water Framework Directive. Open science and FAIR data principles, including compliance with the European Open Science Cloud, are expected. Grants of up to €5,000,000 per project are available.
