Eligibility

Applicants must be registered non-profit, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in Africa or the Middle East. Organisations must have proven experience and competence in their proposed area of activity, demonstrate budget efficiency and transparency in fund use, and contribute to eradicating root causes of poverty. Projects must focus on at least two of the Foundation's four core areas: health, education, community development, or environment. Projects must create sustainable and measurable impact for underprivileged populations and ensure sustainable development through capacity building and empowerment. The Foundation does not support ongoing programmes, individuals or their families, religious or faith-based projects, political organisations, for-profit organisations, third-party fundraisers, unregistered charities, projects outside Africa and the Middle East, sports sponsorships, research as a sole purpose, professional conventions or conferences, or requests solely for travel, accommodation, meal expenses, or operating costs.

How it's scored

The Foundation evaluates projects based on whether they are conducted by registered non-profit NGOs with proven experience and competence, demonstrate budget efficiency and transparency, contribute to eradicating root causes of poverty, focus on the Foundation's core areas, create sustainable and measurable impact for underprivileged populations, and ensure sustainable development through skills building and empowerment. The Foundation gives preference to projects covering two or more core areas and to small organisations run by highly committed individuals directly involved in proposed projects. Selected projects are submitted to the Foundation's Board, which meets 3-4 times per year. Approved projects are subject to a Funding Agreement defining duties and require biannual narrative and financial reports during implementation and a final report three months after project completion.
