Green Chemistry Initiative Grant
In context
This call is open to universities, research institutions and non-profits and 3 others, at idea and R&D stage, prototype and pilot stage and scale-up and mature. Funding is a grant. Coverage is read from the notice itself: any country.
This grant funds the development and adoption of green chemistry principles to create safer, more sustainable chemical processes and products. It targets researchers, chemists, and organizations working to advance sustainable alternatives to conventional chemical manufacturing.
About this grant
The Green Chemistry Initiative is a ten-year, $196.25 million initiative by the Moore Foundation aiming to transform the trajectory of basic research in green chemistry. Inspired by Gordon Moore's background in chemistry, this is the first chemistry-focused initiative at the Foundation. The initiative focuses on discovering and designing higher-performing chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate harm to humans and the environment from hazardous substances. The initiative design aims to expand scientific capacity by enabling new ways of organizing research teams and incentivizing cross-team collaboration through two complementary strategies: fostering multidisciplinary, multi-institutional scientific collaboration and engaging the broader chemical enterprise. The initiative supports global networks across fields including chemistry, materials science, engineering, toxicology, and biology, and advances novel insights into dynamic and adaptable molecules and materials, electrostatic interactions, and complex mixtures. The research will focus on four key areas: understanding and designing molecular dynamics to make molecules and materials responsive and adaptable; control and design of intermolecular interactions using weak forces between molecules; monitoring and controlling interactions and reactions in complex mixtures like wastewater and formulations; and designing new approaches to toxicological assessment and design for reduced hazard.
