This Horizon Europe Innovation Action funds development and deployment of innovative microgrids that integrate renewable energy, demand response, and smart technologies to improve urban energy system efficiency and support climate-neutral cities. Eligible applicants include universities, research institutions, SMEs, large companies, and public authorities across EU member states and associated countries.
About this grant
The Horizon Europe Innovation Action supports the development and real-world deployment of advanced microgrid systems designed to enhance urban energy efficiency. Projects should integrate renewable generation, demand-side management, and smart digital technologies to advance progress towards climate-neutral cities. Universities, research organisations, SMEs, large companies, local authorities and nonprofits based in EU member states and associated countries may apply. Applicants must work in consortiums with multiple stakeholders. Funding of up to €7,000,000 per project is available through the call for solutions at prototype or pilot stage through to mature deployment. Projects will be assessed on their innovation in microgrid design, alignment with urban climate objectives, technical integration of renewables and demand response, demonstrated gains in system efficiency and local energy use, and the strength of the partnership. Applications open on 9 February 2027 and close on 7 October 2027.
