About this grant
Stiftung GEKKO funds civil society organizations working on climate protection and biodiversity conservation. Since 2008, the foundation has supported groups engaged in maintaining genetic engineering-free agriculture and food production. In 2022, the foundation expanded its mandate to include climate protection and increased its funding accordingly. The foundation pursues two strategic approaches to accelerate the exit from fossil fuel energy: divestment campaigns that cut financial flows to fossil fuel companies, and climate litigation (Klimaklagen) that legally challenges the legitimacy of CO2 emissions and corporate or governmental actions that contradict the Paris Climate Agreement and global climate protection efforts.

Eligibility
The foundation supports civil society groups and organizations working on climate protection or genetic engineering and biodiversity issues. Organizations must align with the foundation's strategic approaches of divestment campaigns or climate litigation for climate work, or critical risk research, education, and political campaigns for genetic engineering/biodiversity work.
