About this grant

The Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) Program of the USDA Forest Service encourages collaborative, science-based restoration of priority forest landscapes. This competitive grant program supports collaborative, high-impact projects that produce measurable outcomes on priority forest landscapes, leverage public and private resources, and advance priorities identified in a science-based restoration strategy such as a Tribal Forest Plan, State Forest Action Plan, or equivalent restoration strategy. Proposals are expected to reduce wildfire risk, improve fish and wildlife habitat, maintain or improve water quality and watershed function, and/or mitigate invasive plants, insects, and disease. The program is expected to award approximately four grants under this Tribal-focused opportunity (USDA-FS-2026-LSR-TRIBAL), with an estimated total program funding of $1,260,000. Projects must be carried out on rural non-industrial private forest land and/or rural state or local government forest land. Indian trust lands, both those held by Tribes and by individual Indians, and Indian forest land held in fee are eligible. Rural is defined as areas outside Census places with more than 50,000 people. Applicants should use the LSR Project Planning Tool to confirm location eligibility. Grant recipients must provide a 1:1 non-Federal cost share matching the Federal award. Applicants may request an optional pre-review of their narrative and budget by submitting a draft to the relevant Forest Service regional contact by December 11, 2026. Full applications must be emailed to [email protected] with a copy to the appropriate Forest Service contact. Additional requirements are set out in the NOFO document.
