The Peaceful Uses Initiative (PUI), launched in 2010, is an IAEA key programme that mobilises extrabudgetary contributions from Member States to supplement the Technical Cooperation Fund. PUI finances technical cooperation projects and other unfunded IAEA projects in the peaceful application of nuclear technology. It allows the IAEA to respond more flexibly and quickly to shifting Member State priorities and to unexpected needs or emergencies, such as the response to Ebola in West Africa and the Zika outbreak in Latin America and the Caribbean. PUI-supported activities are aimed at broad development goals and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
