About this grant

INNOVAE is a Spanish national incentive programme run by IDAE (Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía) that funds singular, innovative energy saving and efficiency projects. Its purpose is to reduce final energy consumption by deploying the best available technologies in targeted sectors. The first call is endowed with 115 million euros from the Fondo Nacional de Eficiencia Energética (FNEE), divided across four subprogrammes of 30, 30, 30 and 25 million euros. The four subprogrammes cover sustainable mobility (avoiding trips, modal shift, shared vehicles and rides, digital solutions and road transport efficiency, with a minimum saving of 60 toe per year and grants up to 4.5 million euros per project); industry (process technology upgrades reducing final energy use by at least 20 per cent, with grants up to 2 million euros and a cap of 4 million euros of aid per ktoe saved); renovation of existing tertiary-sector buildings towards zero-emission status (envelope, HVAC, lighting, controls, on-site renewables and digitalisation measures, with grants up to 3 million euros); and replacement of large mechanical-compression refrigeration units of over 100 kW (grants up to 2 million euros, excluding absorption and adsorption systems and requiring GWP below 150 for new installations). Aid is awarded by competitive concurrence in the form of subsidies. Projects must meet minimum eligible costs (100,000 to 1,000,000 euros depending on subprogramme) and specified execution periods of 18 to 24 months. The call is governed by Orden TED/569/2026 and the Resolution of 17 July 2026, and is published in the BDNS under identifier 920153.

Industrial projects are restricted to companies whose CNAE 2025 codes appear in annex 1.3(b) of the bases. Applications must be in Spanish. The call window runs from 09:00 on 15 September 2026 to 12:00 on 18 November 2026 via the IDAE electronic headquarters. No geographic restriction within Spain is stated on the page beyond the programme being Spanish national.

How it's scored

Applications are assessed under competitive concurrence against the minimum saving thresholds and cost criteria for each subprogramme, with the saving requirements (for example 60 toe per year in mobility, at least 20 per cent final energy saving in industry, and A or B energy rating with minimum primary and final energy savings in buildings) acting as eligibility gates. The page does not disclose detailed scoring weightings or panel composition; these are presumably set out in the bases reguladoras (Orden TED/569/2026).

Key requirements

  • ✓Projects must reduce final energy consumption, e.g. at least 20% in industrial processes or a minimum 60 toe/year saving in mobility
  • ✓Minimum eligible costs of 100,000 to 1,000,000 euros depending on subprogramme, with execution periods of 18 to 24 months
  • ✓Aid is awarded by competitive concurrence as subsidies under Orden TED/569/2026 and the Resolution of 17 July 2026; published in BDNS under identifier 920153

About this sector

Energy efficiency funding covers building retrofits, industrial process upgrades, heat recovery, efficient equipment and demand reduction. It arrives as grants for audits and capital works, as support schemes run by agencies and utilities or as public tenders for retrofit and energy services. Applicants usually need a baseline of current energy use and a measured saving.
