About this grant
REPIC (Renewable Energy, Resource Efficiency and Climate Technologies) is a Swiss government-backed platform that funds projects transferring Swiss know-how and technology in renewable energy, energy efficiency and resource efficiency (waste, water and industrial processes) to developing and transition countries. Projects must address a local need, identify local direct beneficiaries, include innovative content, and have a clear strategy for replication after REPIC support ends. Two instruments exist: REPIC Pilot for pre-commercial, market-oriented pilot phases with concrete proof of concept (studies alone do not qualify), and REPIC Rollout for early commercial projects that have already completed a prototype or pilot phase. The page notes that following a Federal Council decision of 24 June 2026, REPIC faces significant budget cuts. Currently only applications for projects in Ukraine are being accepted under the REPIC Ukraine Engagement programme, which supports Ukraine's sustainable reconstruction by giving access to Swiss expertise and products. For Ukraine, up to 70% of project costs may be funded, with maximum grants of CHF 300,000 for pilots and CHF 750,000 for rollouts. Competitive calls for proposals for projects in other countries are planned from 2027, with details to be published later. The application process has two phases: first a project outline, assessed by the REPIC Steering Group, then a full project proposal. Outlines and proposals can be submitted at any time and are assessed several times a year. Decisions are substantiated, binding, and followed by a contract. Standard templates are provided for outline, proposal, intermediate and final reports, and financial reports. Projects must present clearly defined, measurable objectives, milestones and a fully balanced budget. As a general rule REPIC contributes no more than 50% of project cost and caps of CHF 150,000 (Pilot) or CHF 500,000 (Rollout) apply outside the Ukraine programme.

Eligibility
The target country must be a developing or transition country on the OECD DAC list of ODA recipients. The applicant must be a Swiss know-how carrier, such as a company, NGO or research institute. Projects must fall within renewable energy, energy efficiency or resource efficiency and be at the appropriate market maturity stage for the instrument: pre-commercial for REPIC Pilot, early commercial with a completed prototype or pilot for REPIC Rollout. Currently, only projects in Ukraine are being accepted under the Ukraine Engagement programme; standard projects in other countries await calls for proposals from 2027.
