This project aims to strengthen the stewardship of the Sargasso Sea, a biologically and economically significant area beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) in the high seas. The Sargasso Sea is the only known spawning area for the critically endangered European eel and the endangered American eel, both of which support a multi-million dollar global food industry. The project facilitates a collaborative, cross-sectoral ecosystem-based sustainable stewardship approach through improvements in knowledge base and strengthened frameworks for collaboration. …
