About this tender

The University of Ottawa seeks to procure a high spectral resolution confocal Raman microscope system to establish Canada's first laboratory fully equipped and calibrated for quantitative volatile analysis of melt inclusions and fluid inclusions in geological materials. The system will support volcanological, geochemical, geothermal, and environmental research through high-resolution Raman spectroscopy, 2D and 3D imaging, and in-situ experimental capabilities. The instrument must be confocal, compatible with Linkam THMSG600 and TS1400XY heating/cooling stages, and provide the spectral resolution (≤0.65 cm-1/pixel), spatial resolution (≤1 µm), optical performance, calibration capabilities, and automation needed for quantitative analysis of gases, fluids, glasses, minerals and other geological materials, including inclusions as small as 1 micron. Mandatory components include a 532 nm laser (at least 30 mW), a spectrometer with a motorized grating turret (at least three gratings), a thermoelectrically cooled CCD, a Neon calibration source coupled into the Raman path, software-controlled laser attenuation, a motorized XY stage with Z control, Köhler illumination, reflected and transmitted light imaging, and specified 5X and 50X objectives with minimum working distances. The proponent must supply a computer with pre-installed acquisition and processing software that exports data in open formats (e.g., txt), a rigid support frame, installation, commissioning and on-site training for at least one user at the University of Ottawa, one year minimum manufacturer's warranty, and remote telephone and online technical support for the contract duration. The system must be ESA approved (certification or field evaluation mark) before formal delivery, with modifications at the proponent's cost. Facility constraints require air cooling only (no water loops) and no more than 16A on a 120V service. The estimated contract period is stated as 0 months with a proposed start date of 2027-08-27.

Bidder eligibility

Mandatory technical requirements must be met (see scope). Proponent must provide ESA certification or field evaluation mark prior to delivery. Minimum one-year manufacturer's warranty. Trade agreements listed: CFTA and CETA. No explicit legal registration, financial threshold, or prior-experience requirement stated on the notice page; full details are in third-party tender documents.

How bids are scored

Not disclosed on the notice page. Bids are assessed against mandatory requirements; full evaluation method (price/quality split, weightings) is not stated and would be in the third-party tender documents.
