About this tender
The Forestry Division of Alberta's Ministry of Forestry and Parks requires a contractor to reclaim disturbed forested lands caused by Government of Alberta wildfire suppression operations under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act (Part 2). The scope covers the Semo Complex, consisting of wildfires HWF061-24 and HWF136-24. Reclamation includes fireguards, stream crossings, pipeline crossings, helipads, and excavated water holes (bell holes), with the goal of reducing wildfire hazard, controlling soil erosion, and promoting vegetative recovery. Work involves mechanical pulling back of soil, stumps and woody debris to restore natural contour, breaking up trees and dispersing debris flat over fireguards, manual chainsaw slashing where mechanical methods are insufficient, dispersing log decks where feller bunchers widened guards, and re-contouring all cut and fill areas. Work must be done during frozen ground conditions and per the reclamation plan (Appendix B). Some sections may be exempt due to burn-over, existing access lines, or high regeneration areas. The contractor must provide remote-location staff housing, an on-site foreman reporting to the contract manager, bi-weekly progress reports and updated digital maps for invoicing, and scheduled flight inspections before each payment installment and at final sign-off. An Alberta Wildfire Certified Dozer Boss/HEGS must oversee daily operations. The contractor must obtain land use authorizations for any temporary work camp and consult local forest companies (Tolko, La Crete Sawmills, Caribou Mountain Forestry) where haul roads are used. The estimated contract period is 4 months, with a proposed start date of 2026-11-23.
