Research services – heavy vehicle load effects on asphalt pavement rutting Tender

••••• organisation

Summary

Research services to investigate rutting damage in asphalt pavements caused by heavy vehicle loads and unbound layer deformation, with focus on improved design and management practices. Bidders should have expertise in pavement engineering, traffic load analysis, material testing, and climate-resilience modelling for road infrastructure.

About this tender

This research service concerns the load impact of heavy vehicles on rutting of paved roads in Finland. The study addresses the current Finnish design practice for new road pavement structures, which has evolved over time based on empirical observations of long-term durability of structures built from conventional aggregate materials. A key problem identified is that on roads with thin pavements, the critical damage mechanism from a long-term durability perspective is deformation of the unbound base course layer, manifesting as rutting of the road surface and edge settlements. …
