Funder spotlight, a electric mobility funder worth knowing (May 2026)

By Andrew Holden

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) is a joint unit sitting across the Department for Transport and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. It is the UK government body responsible for shaping ultra-low and zero-emission vehicle policy, and it operates a suite of grant schemes that range from consumer-facing purchase discounts through to competitive infrastructure funding for councils and technology developers. Its programmes span plug-in van and truck grants, taxi and motorcycle incentives, the Workplace Charging Scheme, residential chargepoint grants, and the Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) fund for local authorities.

For founders and organisations working in the electric mobility space, OZEV is one of the most consistently active funders in Great Britain. The schemes below vary significantly in scale and eligibility, so it is worth understanding which window applies to your organisation before investing time in an application. OZEV currently has 5 active opportunities in Electric Mobility listed on Raise Lens.

What they fund

OZEV's programmes cover the full electrification stack, from the vehicle purchase itself through to the charging infrastructure required to support fleet and public uptake. Their focus is squarely on GB-based deployment and behaviour change, rather than research or product development (with one notable exception). Competitive funding sits alongside rolling-basis schemes, so the urgency and process differ considerably depending on which programme you are pursuing.

Current programmes include:

  • Electric Car Grant: Discounts of up to £3,750 on eligible new electric cars. Eligibility is based on approved vehicle models. Rolling basis, consumer-facing.
  • Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (Residential): Up to £500 per charge point for flat owners, landlords, and renters installing EV chargepoints at residential properties.
  • Zero Emissions Truck and Van Grants: Part of a £1 billion package to help businesses switch to electric vans and trucks. Open to businesses that can demonstrate commitment to zero-emission vehicle transition.
  • Depot Charging Scheme: Funding to support businesses installing charging infrastructure at depots, specifically to facilitate fleet electrification of vans and trucks.
  • EV Chargepoint Technology Funding: A £10 million competitive fund for technology projects that futureproof England's chargepoint supply. Applications were open until 25 March 2026. Geography: England only.

£1 billion to cut costs for businesses, drive growth and clean up UK roads

Funder: Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Amount: See listing

The Zero Emissions Truck and Van grants and Depot Charging Scheme sit under this umbrella. Eligibility covers businesses operating vans and trucks that can demonstrate a commitment to switching to zero-emission vehicles. If you are running a fleet electrification programme or building the infrastructure to support one, this is the most direct route in. View on Raise Lens

Electric vehicle chargepoint and infrastructure specifications

Funder: Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Amount: See listing

This listing covers the technical and funding specifications for EV chargepoint infrastructure. Worth reviewing if you are building or deploying chargepoint hardware and need to understand compliance requirements alongside funding eligibility. View on Raise Lens

Electric vehicle chargepoint grants

Funder: Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Amount: See listing

One of OZEV's broadest programmes in terms of eligibility: individuals, landlords, businesses, public sector bodies, charities, and educational institutions can all apply. The focus is expanding EV charging infrastructure across the UK, making this relevant for a wide range of organisations with a property or estate angle to their work. View on Raise Lens

Form: chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking (installer claim form)

Funder: Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Amount: See listing

This is a reimbursement route for installers operating under the ChargePoint grant scheme for households without off-street parking. If you are an approved installer or working with one, this is the administrative mechanism for reclaiming costs. It is operational rather than competitive, but worth having on your radar if on-street residential deployment is part of your work. View on Raise Lens

Apply for the Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions

Funder: Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Amount: See listing

Specifically for state-funded schools and education institutions in the UK. Covers the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints on-site. If you are a supplier working with the education sector or an institution looking to remove financial barriers to EV infrastructure, this is the relevant window. View on Raise Lens

How to get on their radar

OZEV's consumer-facing and rolling-basis schemes (chargepoint grants, van and truck grants, the Workplace Charging Scheme) do not require relationship-building in the traditional sense. Eligibility is defined by vehicle model approval lists, property type, or installer accreditation. The most practical step is confirming that your vehicles, products, or installation credentials meet the relevant approved lists before submitting. Attempting to apply outside those parameters wastes time on both sides.

The competitive programmes are a different matter. The EV Chargepoint Technology Funding window (the £10 million England-only fund) was the clearest example of a scheme where early engagement with OZEV's guidance documents and published specifications pays off. OZEV publishes detailed eligibility criteria and technical standards on its website at gov.uk/government/organisations/office-for-zero-emission-vehicles. Monitoring that page for new competitive calls, particularly around LEVI and technology-focused funding, is more reliable than waiting for press coverage. Here is how to turn this spotlight into a working pipeline.

  1. Save OZEV to your Watchlist. Go to /funders/ozev and add them to a Watchlist. You will receive an alert whenever a new opportunity from this funder is indexed, which matters for OZEV because their competitive windows open with limited notice.
  2. Filter by sector on /opportunities. Set the sector filter to "Electric Mobility" or "Energy Infrastructure" and the geography filter to "GB" to surface all active OZEV-adjacent listings alongside any complementary programmes from UKRI, Innovate UK, or local authorities.
  3. Save the grants that match your stage. Use the save function on each relevant listing (the van and truck grants if you are fleet-side, the chargepoint grants if you are infrastructure-side) so they appear in your saved items for quick reference during funding reviews.
  4. Use /draft for the competitive programmes. For the EV Chargepoint Technology Funding and any future LEVI competitive rounds, use the /draft feature to build a first-pass application outline. Starting from the published OZEV eligibility criteria and mapping your project against their stated objectives is the fastest way to identify gaps before the deadline.

OZEV is one of the more operationally active funders in the GB electric mobility space, and their programmes cover more of the electrification stack than most single-body funders. If any of the five listings above are relevant to your work, the funder page is the right place to start tracking their pipeline. Find all active OZEV opportunities and set up your Watchlist at /funders/ozev.
