Regenerative Agriculture grants closing July 2026
June is a genuinely busy month for regenerative agriculture funding, and not by accident. The USDA's fiscal year closes at the end of September, which means programme officers are finalising awards and clearing remaining budget authority in the spring and early summer. Several of the competitions below are running on that cycle. If you miss a June deadline, the next comparable window is typically late autumn at the earliest.
There are six programmes in this list. The geographic spread runs from US federal land-access schemes through insular-area institution grants to a globally-scoped food systems programme administered by USDA-FAS. Read the eligibility sections carefully: a couple of these are squarely for universities and research institutions rather than operators or nonprofits, but they are included because they fund work that regenerative ventures can partner into.
The 8 grants
Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program (VPA-HIP) FY 2026
The Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program sits inside USDA and is designed for state and tribal governments that run voluntary programmes encouraging private landowners to open their land for public recreational access, in exchange for habitat and conservation improvements. If you are a land trust, a state-level agricultural body, or a tribal organisation administering conservation programmes, this is worth your attention. The funder is looking for applicants who can demonstrate existing relationships with private landowners and a clear model for habitat management outcomes.

Alfalfa Seed and Alfalfa Forage Systems (Grants.gov listing)
USDA is funding research and development work on alfalfa seed varieties and forage production systems. The framing is productivity and sustainability: improving yield, reducing input dependency, and supporting the livestock feed supply chain. Eligible applicants under this listing are likely to include agricultural research stations, land-grant universities, and farmer-led cooperatives with a research component. If your organisation sits outside pure research, a partnership with an eligible institution is the usual route in.

Resident Instruction Grants for Insular Areas: Agriculture and Food Science Facilities and Equipment (Grants.gov listing)
This programme funds agricultural and food science education infrastructure at higher education institutions in US insular areas: Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and similar territories. The focus is on physical facilities, equipment, and the instructional capacity to run food and agricultural science programmes in regions where supply chains and institutional resources are constrained. Eligible institutions are 2-year and 4-year public or nonprofit colleges and universities located in those territories.

Micro-Grants for Food Security Program
USDA-AMS runs this programme specifically to support small-scale food security work, and the micro-grant framing signals that the awards are sized for community organisations and small producers rather than large institutions. The programme is oriented toward climate-resilient and sustainable food systems, which puts it squarely in regenerative territory if your work touches soil health, local food access, or community food infrastructure. Worth checking the current eligibility carefully, as some cohorts of this programme have included food co-operatives, community gardens, and tribal food systems organisations.

Acer Access and Development Program
USDA-AMS administers this programme to support the maple industry: production infrastructure, market development, and sustainable forestry practices for maple tapping. It is a niche programme, but the sustainability practices angle is genuine. If you are working on agroforestry systems in the northeast US or Great Lakes region, or working with tribal or small woodland owners on diversified forest products, this is worth reading. Applicants have historically included producer associations, state maple organisations, and agroforestry nonprofits.

Food for Progress Program FY 2026
USDA-FAS administers Food for Progress as a foreign policy and agricultural development instrument, funding food security, capacity-building, and sustainable food systems work in developing countries. The geographic scope covers Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and MENA. Implementing organisations (typically large NGOs or international development entities) are the primary applicant type, but smaller organisations can come in as sub-grantees or consortium partners. If your regenerative work has an international dimension and you have or can build a partnership with a qualifying lead organisation, this is one of the larger envelopes available on this list.

What's not in this list
This post covers grants only. Several relevant regenerative agriculture programmes currently open on Raise Lens are structured as loans, revenue-based instruments, or government offtake contracts, including USDA's own RCPP and some state-level conservation finance schemes. Those are filtered out here because the application process and financial implications are different enough to warrant separate treatment. You can find them by going to /opportunities and selecting the relevant instrument-type chip alongside the regenerative agriculture sector tag.
Use this in Raise Lens
Four practical steps to get from this post to a submitted application:
- Open /opportunities, apply the "Regenerative Agriculture" sector filter, and set the deadline range to the next 60 days. This surfaces any programmes added after this post was published alongside the ones above.
- Save each funder (USDA-AMS, USDA-FAS, USDA NIFA) to a Watchlist on /funders so you receive alerts when new competitions open under those agencies. USDA runs rolling programmes throughout the fiscal year and the same office often publishes successor notices in September and October.
- For any programme where you meet eligibility, use /draft to produce a first-pass narrative. The section prompts map to standard USDA application components: project description, goals and objectives, evaluation criteria, budget justification.
- Set a saved search with alerts for "USDA" plus your state or territory, particularly if you are based in an insular area or working in a region with active USDA Farm Service Agency presence. Competitions at the state level often have shorter timelines and smaller applicant pools.
The full regenerative agriculture sector page on Raise Lens keeps a live list of open programmes beyond what fits in a single post, including international foundations, EU-funded schemes for European operators, and non-USDA federal programmes.
