Renewable Energy tenders to watch, August 2026

By Andrew Holden

Government and multilateral procurement rarely appears on the radar of early-stage founders chasing grants, which is a missed opportunity. Public tenders in renewable energy routinely run to six or seven figures, and unlike grant rounds that open once a year, procurement pipelines are continuous. A buyer who needs renewable electricity supply from 2028 is publishing that tender now, in 2026, giving suppliers nearly two years of lead time. If you are a solar installer, an energy supplier, an EPC contractor, or a hardware distributor with the right certifications, these contracts are often more accessible than they appear.

The August 2026 window is busier than usual. Below are ten live opportunities across Europe, multilateral agencies, and sub-Saharan Africa, all closing on or around 3 August 2026.

The contracts

Université Libre de Bruxelles: 100% renewable electricity supply (2028–2031)

ULB is running an open procurement for certified renewable electricity across all its Brussels campuses, covering four contract years from 2028 to 2031. This is a straightforward energy supply contract: bidders must be licensed electricity suppliers able to deliver Guarantees of Origin-backed renewable power to a large institutional buyer in Belgium. The geographic scope covers Belgium and, by implication, EU-authorised suppliers. Because it is an open procedure, any qualifying supplier can submit without being pre-selected.

Note: the same tender appears twice in the procurement register under two separate lot or notice identifiers. Check both listings before submitting to confirm whether they represent distinct lots.

Sprinkenhof GmbH (Hamburg): energy-efficient building renovation, Tegelsbarg

This is an engineering services contract for the deep retrofit of a 1,125 m² municipal day-care building in Hamburg's Wandsbek district. The scope includes heat pump installation, building insulation, rooftop PV, and accessibility upgrades. The buyer is Sprinkenhof GmbH, acting on behalf of the Hamburg district authority. Bidders should be qualified engineering consultancies with demonstrable experience in building energy performance, HVAC design, and renewable integration on occupied public buildings. The procurement method is not formally stated in the notice, so contact the contracting authority to confirm whether pre-qualification is required.

FAO: integrated solar PV and storage systems, Cuba

The Food and Agriculture Organisation is procuring integrated photovoltaic systems with battery storage as part of its Sustainable Agro-landscapes Project (Agropaisajes Sostenibles) in Cuba. The package covers supply, delivery, and likely installation of solar-plus-storage units for agricultural contexts. Suppliers with experience in rural electrification, agricultural solar, or humanitarian hardware logistics to Caribbean or Latin American destinations are the natural fit. As a UN procurement, this follows FAO's standard vendor registration process. Geographic delivery is to Cuba.

  • FAO | Closing: 3 August 2026 | Estimated value: not disclosed | View tender

UNDP: rechargeable solar lamps, Myanmar

UNDP is sourcing rechargeable solar power lamps for Myanmar, consistent with its rural electrification and humanitarian response work in the country. This is a supply and delivery contract rather than an installation contract, which means manufacturers, distributors, and trading companies with Southeast Asia logistics capability are the likely bidders. UNDP procurement uses its own vendor portal; existing UNDP-registered vendors have a clear advantage on turnaround time.

  • UNDP | Closing: 3 August 2026 | Estimated value: not disclosed | View tender

Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife: solar canopies for municipal football pitches

The Tenerife city council is procuring design, supply, and installation of photovoltaic panels integrated into shade structures over municipal football fields (Lot 3 of a broader shade-and-solar programme). The contract covers grid-connected PV with storage. At an estimated $1.4 million, this is the highest-value contract in this batch. It is an open procedure, so any qualified contractor with solar PV and structural engineering credentials can bid. Spanish public procurement registration (via the Plataforma de Contratación del Sector Público) is a practical prerequisite.

  • Junta de Gobierno del Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife | Closing: 3 August 2026 | Estimated value: ~$1,402,254 | View tender

Ayuntamiento de Tazacorte: heat pump pool heating with rooftop PV, La Palma

The municipality of Villa y Puerto de Tazacorte (La Palma, Canary Islands) is tendering construction and installation of an aerothermal heat pump system for its municipal swimming pool, supported by on-site solar PV self-consumption. The contract value is approximately $147,000. Bidders should be construction or HVAC firms with renewable integration experience. The procedure is open. This is a realistic entry point for smaller contractors with Canary Islands presence or willingness to mobilise there.

  • Alcaldía del Ayuntamiento de Villa y Puerto de Tazacorte | Closing: 3 August 2026 | Estimated value: ~$147,071 | View tender

Miasto Katowice: two utility-scale solar farms with battery storage, Poland

Katowice is procuring two solar PV installations (each approximately 1 MWp) paired with 1 MW / 4 MWh battery storage systems, for public utility use. The scope is full EPC: design, permitting, grid connection, construction, and a 60-month warranty. This is an open EU procedure, so bidders from across the EU can participate. Contractors must demonstrate prior experience with full-scope renewable energy project delivery including storage integration. For a Polish public tender of this size, expect requirements around turnover, insurance, and reference projects.

  • Miasto Katowice | Closing: 3 August 2026 | Estimated value: not disclosed | View tender

Mpumalanga Agriculture: solar-powered packhouse, aquaculture project, South Africa

The Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Administration is procuring fish farming infrastructure for a rural trading enterprise, including netting cages, water systems, and a solar-powered packhouse. The solar component is one element of a broader agricultural package. Bidders should have aquaculture equipment and solar installation capability, and be able to deliver to a rural Mpumalanga site. Procurement method is not specified in the notice; contact the department directly to confirm the submission route.

Město Rožmitál pod Třemšínem: solar PV and battery storage for public buildings, Czech Republic

This Czech municipality is procuring solar PV modules and battery energy storage systems for two public buildings. The scope points to a system integrator or equipment supplier rather than a large EPC contractor. Bidders should be solar PV installers or equipment distributors with experience in building-mounted systems and battery integration. Procurement method is unconfirmed in the notice. EU-based suppliers are the natural fit given the geographic scope.

How tenders differ from grants

Tenders are buyer-led contracts, not funder-led awards. That means the submission process involves a formal tender document (technical specification, pricing schedule, compliance declarations, and often certificates of insurance and financial standing) rather than a narrative application. Lead times matter more than in grant-writing: large EPC contracts can require months of preparation, while supply-and-delivery contracts may be achievable in weeks. Most public tenders above a threshold value require prior company registration with the relevant procurement platform (TED for EU contracts, South African Treasury portal, UN Global Marketplace for UN agencies). On Raise Lens, tenders and grants appear on the same /opportunities feed, filtered by type, so you can monitor both side-by-side and route each one to the right person on your team.

Use this in Raise Lens

  • Go to /opportunities, set Sector to "Renewable Energy" and Type to "Tender", then sort by closing date to surface the most time-sensitive contracts first.
  • Save each buyer above (ULB, FAO, UNDP, Katowice, etc.) to a Watchlist on /funders so you receive alerts when they publish new procurement notices.
  • Set a saved search with your geographic filters (EU, Sub-Saharan Africa, or Southeast Asia) and a keyword such as "solar PV" or "heat pump", then turn on email alerts so new matching tenders land in your inbox as they are indexed.
  • For any tender where your organisation is a strong fit, open the listing and use /draft to generate a first-pass response to the technical specification, which you can refine against the buyer's actual documents.

Public procurement in renewable energy runs on rolling timelines, and the next batch of August opportunities will follow closely behind this one. Bookmark the live feed and check it weekly rather than waiting for a digest.
