About this grant

The Apartment Charger Grant assists residents and owners of apartments and other multi-unit developments who want to install a home charger for their electric vehicle where the development is not covered by pre-existing grants. It is designed for bulk installation of chargers at a single location and supports cabling, infrastructure, labour and construction costs. Funding is provided by Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) in the Department of Transport, and SEAI operates the scheme on its behalf. There are two routes. Under Route 1, where no EV charging system exists in a car park, the company managing the complex applies to SEAI for support covering up to 80% of infrastructure costs plus a fixed amount per charge point installed; residents can make separate arrangements with the management company to pay for dedicated chargers. Under Route 2, where an EV charging network already exists, residents seek permission from their management company to join the network and then apply individually through the Home Charger grant system. Applicants must partner with an SEAI-registered Charge Point Operator, who provides quotations and technical guidance, and management companies are encouraged to obtain three quotes. Grant levels vary by applicant type, and awards are subject to caps per dwelling and per development, with per-charge-point limits and benchmark-based assessment of eligible costs.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are Owners' Management Companies, management companies of Build-to-Rent developments, local authorities, and approved housing bodies, as well as private and commercial landlords who own one or more units, though landlords are eligible only for a bulk installation. The development must have two or more units that share facilities, amenities and services and have shared or private parking, but no dedicated private off-street parking. Applicants outside these categories should contact SEAI to discuss eligibility. Applications must be made through a registered Charge Point Operator.
