About this grant

The Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant is a government-funded scheme administered by SEAI on behalf of Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) in the Department of Transport. It helps homeowners and residents install an electric vehicle charge point at their property. The grant covers 100% of total installation costs up to a maximum of €300, including the charger and installation. The grant is available whether or not the applicant owns an electric vehicle, and the charge point may also be used by visitors or tenants. The scheme supports only smart chargers registered on SEAI's Smart Charger Register. Installation must be carried out by a Safe Electric registered electrician, who must issue a Certificate Number 3 and Test Record Sheet. Work must not begin before the start date on the Letter of Offer, and must be completed within six months of that date, with a Payment Request Form and supporting evidence submitted to SEAI. Third-party companies may also apply on behalf of residents once they have registered with SEAI using a CRO number. Multi-unit developments and charger arm solutions are addressed through additional requirements, including MPRN details and planning declarations where relevant.

Eligibility

The grant is open to private individuals who are homeowners or residents with a private residence that has its own off-street parking, with the charger connected to the applicant's home. The property must be identified by its Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN). Properties that previously received an EV home charge point grant payment, or that availed of the free ESB Ecars home charger before 2018, are not eligible. Only one charger may be associated with each MPRN. Third-party companies acting for residents must first register with SEAI using a CRO number and tax reference number. Applications are only approved where the grant beneficiary is a private individual. Applicants without off-street parking may be considered for charger arm solutions only with evidence of a local planning authority declaration or planning permission. Applicants whose circumstances are not covered may contact SEAI for eligibility verification. Geography is Ireland.
