About this grant

The Attic Insulation grant is an individual energy upgrade under the Better Energy Homes scheme run by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). It funds the installation of attic insulation in existing homes, which SEAI describes as often the most cost-effective upgrade a homeowner can make, improving comfort and energy efficiency. Grants are fixed values by property type: detached house EUR 2,000, semi-detached or end of terrace EUR 1,500, mid-terrace EUR 1,400, and apartments EUR 1,100. Enhanced fixed grants of up to EUR 2,500 (detached) apply for first-time buyers, homeowners receiving Department of Social Protection welfare payments, and landlords with an active HAP tenancy or RAS arrangement. Enhanced values are EUR 2,500 detached, EUR 1,900 semi-detached or end of terrace, EUR 1,800 mid-terrace and EUR 1,400 apartments. First-time buyer uplift applies to homes built on or before 31 December 2010 purchased on or after 1 January 2025. Applicants must use a registered SEAI contractor, obtain grant approval before starting works, complete the works within eight months of the offer, and carry out a post-works BER assessment (a EUR 50 BER grant is available). Alternatively, a One Stop Shop can manage the upgrade and deduct the grant upfront from the cost. Payment is typically processed within 4 to 6 weeks of submitting completion evidence, subject to possible inspection.
