About this grant

The NOAA Climate Program Office (CPO) is soliciting proposals for a FY 2027 competitive grants competition focused on applying Super Intelligence and Machine Learning (SI/ML) to advance NOAA's Earth system science and to support hazard resilience decision-making. The notice is jointly issued by the CPO Modeling, Analysis, Predictions and Projections (MAPP) Program, the Adaptation Sciences (AdSci) Program, and the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) Program. Proposals are expected to address three priority areas: (1) multi-annual to decadal prediction, (2) hazard resilience decision-support information, and (3) extreme heat predictions and preparedness. The broader goal is to accelerate innovation in NOAA's research so that it produces better forecasts, earlier warnings for natural hazards, improved monitoring of Earth systems, and actionable information for communities facing climate-relevant hazards such as extreme weather, heat, floods, wildfire, drought, coastal inundation, and air quality events. The funding supports extramural research, capacity building, tool development, and engagement consistent with CPO's mission to conduct research that is transitioned into societal use. The notice is listed under Assistance Listing 11.431, Climate and Atmospheric Research.
