About this grant

The Geospace Cluster (GC) in the Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences (AGS) supports fundamental and solutions-oriented research, technology development and education related to the Earth's near-space environment including the mesosphere, thermosphere, ionosphere, exosphere, magnetosphere and radiation belts, as well as the inner heliosphere and solar atmosphere. The cluster advances knowledge of the Sun-Earth system, including how various parts are coupled through dynamical, electrodynamical and chemical processes. Research supported includes studies of aeronomy, magnetospheric physics, solar-terrestrial physics, space weather and space climate, with particular emphasis on societal impacts such as space weather hazards and upper atmosphere climate change. The GC supports research utilizing ground-based or space-based observational facilities, data centers, and theoretical, modeling, observational, data analysis and laboratory activities. Proposals are accepted at any time, though specific targeted research programs including CEDAR, GEM, SHINE, and FDSS have specific target dates or deadlines with potential PI and institution restrictions.

About this sector

Climate adaptation funding helps communities, infrastructure and businesses prepare for heat, flooding, drought and sea level rise. Most of it is public and multilateral money, often targeted at vulnerable regions and delivered with local government. Calls usually ask for a climate risk assessment and evidence that local people shaped the plan.
