About this grant
The AES Panama Foundation is a corporate foundation created in 2020 by AES Panama to oversee all sustainability and corporate social responsibility matters for the AES group of companies in Panama. Over 25 years, AES Panama has invested more than USD $90 million in social projects promoting economic and social development in its operational areas. The Foundation's mission is to improve lives through sustainable projects that promote economic and social development in the communities where AES group companies operate. The Foundation works across four strategic pillars: access to energy and basic services that are safe, efficient and accessible; inclusive economic growth through education and entrepreneurship; environmental conservation; and community health, well-being and safety. The Foundation supports integrated, long-term initiatives that generate measurable impact and benefit significant community segments rather than individuals, with a focus on projects located in communities where AES operates.

Eligibility
Projects must be located in communities of influence of AES Panama plants and construction projects and must benefit these communities. Initiatives must be promoted by organizations or institutions properly constituted according to Panama's laws. Projects must be aligned with one of the Foundation's four strategic pillars and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Foundation prioritizes comprehensive initiatives that address real community needs rather than specific individual needs, and requires projects to provide sustainable and long-term benefits that are replicable across multiple localities where they respond to community needs. All projects must generate measurable impact over time and benefit a significant portion of the community.
How it's scored
All projects must be approved by the Foundation's leadership and the Ethics and Compliance Officer to ensure alignment with the Foundation's lines of action and compliance with the highest standards of integrity and transparency. The Foundation evaluates projects based on criteria including whether they generate value for communities and respond to real needs, provide sustainable and long-term benefits, align with one of the four strategic pillars and the SDGs, generate measurable impact, are integral initiatives not addressing specific needs, benefit a significant community portion not individuals, and are replicable across localities.
