About this grant
ADEME's feasibility study grant for waste heat recovery (récupération de chaleur fatale) funds technical, economic, regulatory and environmental studies that let a project promoter decide whether an industrial or territorial waste heat recovery operation is viable. The study targets a specific solution, which must already have been defined by an upstream study such as an energy audit or opportunity study. Where no such upstream study justifies the chosen solution against the site's or company's decarbonisation roadmap, an opportunity study on energy mix evolution funded by PACTE Industrie must be carried out first. The feasibility study is intended to verify technical and economic feasibility, propose technical solutions adapted to the site, and examine financial and legal structuring options. It is meant to validate the project through a techno-economic compromise within the agreed scope and in line with the site's decarbonisation roadmap. Subsidised studies must be carried out by an independent consultancy firm with technical competence, objectivity and transparency. Eligible providers include engineering and technical study offices with the relevant NAF codes and OPQIBI 1717 qualification or equivalent, and technical centres with thermal or energy expertise in the relevant sector. Any conflict of interest with the sale, manufacture, installation, operation or maintenance of a solution, or with CEE schemes, must be disclosed in the quote and final report. Collectivities, EPCIs and local associations should follow the territorial study specification, which covers identifying available waste heat potential across a territory. Companies should follow the company feasibility specification. All applicants must complete the ADEME risk matrix, which is mandatory for any subsidy request. Once a feasibility study confirms the investment, ADEME's Fonds Chaleur can co-fund the capital investment in the recovery installation.

Eligibility
Open to companies, local authorities (collectivités), EPCIs and associations of local stakeholders. Applicants must have a project for waste heat recovery and an upstream study defining the solution, or otherwise complete a PACTE Industrie opportunity study first. Subsidised studies must be commissioned from eligible consultancies or technical centres meeting the stated NAF and OPQIBI requirements. The aid is granted mainly through ADEME regional directorates, and the page covers all regions. A user account on the AGIR platform is required to file, and prior contact with the regional ADEME office is advised.
