About this grant
The National Forest for Wales Landscape Scheme, funded by Welsh Government and managed by WCVA, supports collaborative landscape-scale forest creation and improvement projects across Wales. Following a successful pilot, the scheme continues to work with multiple landowners and communities to realize economic, community, biodiversity, and recreational benefits. Projects must meet all six National Forest for Wales outcomes: creating good quality, well-designed and managed resilient woodlands; ensuring woodlands are accessible to people; fostering community involvement; connecting woodlands; developing dynamic, multi-purpose woodlands and trees; and demonstrating learning, research and innovation. The scheme supports innovative approaches to woodland and landscape management, including traditional woodland skills training, sustainable economic opportunities, habitat creation, and broader community engagement through education and volunteering.

Eligibility
Organisations in Wales working in collaboration with their Local Nature Partnership to develop and oversee their project are eligible. Applications should demonstrate being rooted in the needs of their place and the impact trees can have for their community or locality. Strong community engagement is required, offering opportunities for deprived communities to access woodland and nature and creating local, sustainable economic opportunities in rural areas. Projects should deliver against wider forestry policy objectives including tree planting, improved access and connectivity, skills development, and economic value of woodland. Broader community engagement through education, skill development, and volunteering opportunities is expected. Innovative approaches to woodland and landscape management and piloting of new practices are encouraged.
How it's scored
Applications are evaluated based on how well they meet all six National Forest for Wales outcomes, though individual participants can focus on specific outcomes if required. The scheme assesses alignment with the needs of the place, community engagement quality, economic opportunities creation, delivery against wider forestry policy objectives, innovation in woodland management, and demonstration of learning and research. Projects are judged on their collaborative nature across multiple landowners at landscape scale and their ability to reflect the specified eligibility criteria.
