Pre-announcement: Third call for projects under the European FutureFoodS partnership Grant
In context
This call is open to universities, research institutions and non-profits and 3 others. Funding is a grant. Coverage is read from the notice itself: the European Union. The funder accepts early-stage applicants.
FutureFoodS is a Horizon Europe co-funded partnership call supporting research and innovation projects that advance sustainable, resilient, and equitable food systems in Europe, with emphasis on post-harvest food, green and digital transitions, and alignment with the EU Green Deal and Farm-to-Fork strategy. The call targets complex food-system challenges including climate adaptation, food waste, soil health, biodiversity, nutrition, and socio-economic equity across production, processing, distribution, and consumption.
About this grant
FutureFoodS is a European partnership, co-funded under Horizon Europe, that brings together 86 partners from 29 countries. It aims to advance green and digital transitions in food systems, with a focus on post-harvest food. The partnership contributes to the European Green Deal, the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Farm to Fork strategy, and its vision is environmentally sound, socially secure, equitable, economically viable, healthy and safe European food systems by 2050. This pre-announcement covers the third transnational call for research and/or innovation proposals under the partnership. Proposals must clearly define and characterise the food system they study, including its main actors, key dependencies, leverage points for improving sustainability, and its links to other food systems. Projects are expected to take a transformative perspective, be interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, involve multiple stakeholders, and be sustainable. Each proposal must include an impact plan for food system transformation. The call targets three themes: (1) sustainable, transparent and trustworthy food value chains; (2) consumer agency and the construction of food environments that promote healthy, safe and sustainable practices; and (3) innovative food processing for sustainable products and healthy diets. These fall within the partnership's four R&I areas: changing how we eat, how we process and supply food, how we connect to food systems, and how we govern them. Primary production (crop cultivation, agricultural production and related aspects) is excluded, as are nutrition- and lifestyle-related diseases. The call is described as a pre-announcement, and the details shown are provisional and may change before the call opens. Further information is to be published at www.futurefoodspartnership.eu.
