About this grant

The SEAI Solar Electricity Grant (Solar PV) helps homeowners in Ireland install solar photovoltaic panels to generate their own renewable electricity, reducing energy costs and supporting climate goals. The scheme is funded under the government's Microgeneration Support Scheme. Grants are calculated per kWp, with a standard maximum of €1,800 for systems up to 4kWp. A separate €600 battery grant (5kWh) is available and can be applied for in the same application when installing both measures, bringing the combined maximum to €2,400. An enhanced grant of up to €9,000 (including battery) is available to eligible homeowners receiving certain Department of Social Protection payments, and a similar higher grant applies to long-term tenants in Rental Accommodation Scheme properties in four Dublin local authority areas. Applicants must select an SEAI-registered solar PV installer, obtain a written contract, and apply online for a grant offer before any works begin. Once approved, works must be completed within 8 months. The installer must register the connection with ESB Networks, and a post-works BER assessment by a registered SEAI BER assessor is required before payment. Grants are paid to the nominated bank account, typically within 4 to 6 weeks of documentation being received. Scope changes such as altering system size or changing installer require prior SEAI approval. One Stop Shop arrangements are available where multiple upgrades are carried out at once, with grants deducted upfront. The grant covers the measure, size and amount stated in the Letter of Offer only.
