Eligibility

Applicants must be in England and participating in Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier, Woodland Tree Health grants, or Capital Grants agreements. Applicants can plant on land that has not been woodland for at least 10 years before the application date, on woodland following felling due to plant health disease, or on hedgerows. For ammonia emission capture, trees must be planted within 20 metres of livestock housing, slurry or digestate stores, or free-range areas, with approval from Catchment Sensitive Farming. Trees cannot be used if planting could damage areas of ecological, archaeological or historic interest, for Christmas tree or biomass production, for cricket bat willows, or for restocking following a conditional felling licence (except for tree health reasons). Ash trees cannot be planted under this item. Applicants must comply with Forest Reproductive Material Regulations 2002 and use appropriate planting stock.
