In context
This is a contract notice published by a government body covering services. Delivery covers Netherlands (Europe). It is classified under Biodiversity and Nature against the sustainability taxonomy rather than matched on keywords.
Rijkswaterstaat seeks a telemetry study of the Nathusius' pipistrelle bat, tracking migration routes, flight heights and North Sea use via GPS-style tags, the MOTUS network and DNA analysis. It fits ecological research firms or consortia with bat telemetry and offshore wind impact expertise.

About this tender
Rijkswaterstaat Water, Verkeer en Leefomgeving is procuring a telemetry study of the rough bat (ruige dwergvleermuis, Pipistrellus nathusii) in relation to offshore wind farms. The purpose is to gain better insight into migration routes, migratory behaviour and use of the North Sea area by this species. The work involves fitting bats with transmitters and tracking them via the MOTUS receiver network, supplemented by DNA analysis. The results are intended to support a better assessment of the effects of offshore wind farms at population level, and to show flight routes, flight heights and migration timing so that mitigation measures, such as temporarily stopping wind turbines, can be deployed more effectively. The tender also allows for additional analyses and innovative research techniques, provided they demonstrably help close existing knowledge gaps. The contract is a services contract under the Aanbestedingswet 2012 (open procedure). Planned start is 1 March 2027 and planned completion is 31 March 2031, a duration of about four years.
