Eligibility
Applicants must be operating in England. Land eligibility is determined by sensitivity classification (low sensitivity or more sensitive land). Applicants cannot plant trees where they would damage priority habitats, protected species, archaeological or historic features, or on peat deeper than 30 centimetres without approval. Trees cannot be planted within 5 metres of parcel boundaries, hedges, or existing tree canopies. If the land has breeding waders (lapwing, redshank, curlew, snipe, oystercatcher, stone curlew) or if planting on more sensitive land, an approved agroforestry plan is required. Applicants may need approval from the Forestry Commission or Natural England depending on circumstances. An agricultural or forestry Environmental Impact Assessment may be required depending on land type and tree density.
