About this grant
The Fonds Chaleur, administered by ADEME, provides financial aid for the construction of heat production installations supplied by deep geothermal energy. The programme targets the replacement of fossil-fuel heating with renewable and recovered energy (EnR&R). Support covers geothermal operations on deep aquifers (low-energy geothermal), with or without heat pumps, and may be linked to the creation or extension of a district heating network. Before investing, applicants must demonstrate an EnRChoix-style approach: reducing energy demand through efficiency measures, pooling production through existing or planned heating networks, assessing locally available fatal heat sources, and considering other local renewables such as biomass and solar thermal, either alone or alongside geothermal. Aid amount depends on technical conditions, including the quality of the subsurface and surface project studies, the quantity of heat produced, and energy and environmental performance. ADEME also supports upstream phases such as opportunity notes, feasibility studies and project management assistance. Aid is mainly granted through ADEME regional directorates, and prior contact is strongly recommended. Applications are filed on the AGIR platform, which requires an account.

Eligibility
Open to local authorities, companies, public bodies and associations that plan to build a deep geothermal heat production installation. The aid applies across all regions, with grants mainly handled by ADEME regional directorates. Prior contact with the relevant regional directorate is strongly advised before applying. The programme is listed as in progress for calendar year 2026 (1 January to 31 December 2026).
