About this grant
The Chaleur bois investment aid, run by ADEME under the Fonds Chaleur, co-finances the construction of biomass and wood-energy heat production installations. It is aimed at reducing fossil fuel heating by switching to renewable biomass, and it sits within ADEME's EnRChoix approach, which asks project holders to first consider energy sobriety, shared heating networks, recovery of available waste heat, and other local renewables such as geothermal or solar thermal. Biomass is positioned as most relevant for high-temperature needs above roughly 90 to 100 °C, or where no other local renewable source can meet the demand. Support is available for collective, tertiary and agricultural installations producing at least 1,200 MWh/year of biomass heat at the boiler outlet, and for industrial installations producing between 1,200 and 12,000 MWh/year. Very large industrial and agricultural installations above 12,000 MWh/year are handled through the BCIAT call for projects, while small biomass installations below 1,200 MWh/year are supported only through renewable heat contracts. Aid levels depend on technical conditions including the project study, biomass supply, heat output and energy and environmental performance.
