About this grant
This grant supports work on sustainable sourcing, processing and use of critical raw materials—including lithium, cobalt, nickel and rare earths—that are essential for renewable energy and energy-transition technologies. Projects should advance circular economy principles through recycling, material reuse, improved efficiency or greater transparency in supply chains, whilst demonstrating environmental and social benefits aligned with energy-transition goals. Nonprofits, research institutions, universities, small and medium-sized enterprises, large companies and consortia may apply. Eligible applicants are based in Germany or elsewhere in the EU. Projects at any stage—from early research and development through prototypes and pilots to mature, scaling solutions—are welcome. Grants are available through the call to support ideas that tackle responsible extraction, circular practices and supply-chain sustainability in the energy sector.
