Capturing CO₂ at scale is one of the most capital-intensive sustainability sectors, and the funding mix reflects that, sovereign-backed first-of-a-kind deployment grants, multilateral debt for industrial retrofits, and corporate offtake commitments for engineered removals.
The early stage is dominated by US DOE OCED, UK DESNZ, EU Innovation Fund, and a small cluster of corporate buyers (Frontier, Stripe Climate, Microsoft) writing the cheques that anchor commercial-scale plants. Earlier-stage R&D grants come from ARIA, ARPA-E, UKRI, and a handful of foundations.
