Seed-stage impact fund backing African startups developing scalable climate solutions in agri-food tech and the nature economy. Focuses on climate-smart transformation of Africa's agri-food systems and food system resilience.
About this grant
CRAF is an impact fund seeking to drive climate-smart transformation of Africa's agri-food systems and the nature economy. The fund recognizes that even if global net zero ambitions are met by 2050, the world will still overshoot 1.5 degrees for at least a generation, placing severe stress on nature including productive land and water. Africa is particularly vulnerable to these climate shocks. CRAF invests in seed-stage African startups with scalable solutions to the climate crisis, focusing on agri-food technology and the nature economy. The fund aims to develop self-sufficiency and resilience against climate shocks while promoting more sustainable ways of producing and consuming food. The global food system is worth $8 trillion annually and accounts for 10% of the global economy, yet much of it contributes to climate change, biodiversity destruction, unstable food prices, and low-paid jobs. CRAF backs startups that reimagine how food is produced and consumed.
