About this grant
The Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (FaSS) has been expanded to provide grant contributions towards new engines and gearboxes on fishing vessels in England. The scheme is funded from the £132 million committed to the Fishing and Coastal Growth Fund over five years and is administered by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs. The funding helps vessel operators modernize their fleets and become more efficient, reducing engine emissions and supporting long-term growth and sustainability in the fishing sector. The scheme offers tiered grant contributions: 65% for Small Scale Coastal Fleet vessels installing new petrol or diesel engines, 50% for all other vessels installing petrol or diesel engines, and 90% for electric or hybrid engines regardless of vessel or business size. Beyond engine and gearbox support, the scheme can fund a wide range of activities including improving shore-based facilities, cooperative activities, fishing-related energy improvements, health and safety upgrades, marine conservation, and diversification initiatives.

Eligibility
The scheme is open to anyone involved in fishing, aquaculture, seafood processing, marine conservation, or related environmental work in England. Eligible vessel operators can apply for grant contributions towards new engines and gearboxes through the standard application process.
