About this grant

The SDE++ (Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie en Klimaattransitie) is a Dutch national subsidy scheme that funds businesses and non-profit organisations to generate renewable energy or reduce CO2 emissions through eligible techniques. The scheme covers five main categories: renewable electricity, renewable heat, renewable gas, CO2-free heat, and CO2-free production. This page describes the application procedure for the 2026 application round, which opened on 27 October 2026 and runs until 26 November 2026, with a stated total budget of EUR 8 billion. Applicants first determine the phase in which they can apply, which depends on the subsidy intensity (euro per tonne of CO2) derived from the requested subsidy amount, the long-term price and the emission factor for the technique. Applications are processed in order of receipt once complete, and if the budget is exceeded on a given day, projects are ranked by subsidy intensity. Certain technologies in the heat and molecules domains receive reserved budget of EUR 750 million per domain (the 'hekjes' mechanism). Applicants must hold required permits at the time of submission, submit mandatory attachments, and must not have entered irreversible investment commitments for the production installation before applying. Applications are submitted through RVO's digital application environment using eHerkenning, and a decision letter is issued within 13 weeks, extendable once by up to 13 weeks.

Eligibility

The SDE++ subsidy is intended for businesses and non-profit organisations. Only the intended producer may apply, meaning the entity that will own and operate the production installation. A maximum of one application per category per location is permitted in each round. Applicants must not have entered irreversible investment commitments for the installation at the time of submission, and must not also claim ISDE, EIA or SCE subsidies for the same installation, with a limited exception for certain non-building-integrated solar PV projects. Applicants must hold the required permits at submission. Applicants who previously received an SDE++ award for a project that cannot be realised on time may reapply under specific conditions, including withdrawing the existing subsidy. Eligibility conditions otherwise vary by technology category.

How it's scored

Applications are assessed for completeness first; only complete applications enter the ranking. Complete applications are then reviewed to confirm they meet SDE requirements. Where the subsidy budget is oversubscribed on a given day, projects are ranked by subsidy intensity (euro per tonne CO2), with lower intensity favoured. Budget is reserved within domains (low-temperature heat, high-temperature heat, molecules) and unused domain budget rolls over to the general budget. Applications are otherwise handled in order of receipt.
