About this grant
DRIVE is a European Union-funded project that accelerates rural bio-innovation and circular bioeconomy startups and SMEs across Europe. The project addresses the barrier that rural entrepreneurs face in securing funding, partners, and market traction despite Europe's rural potential for bio-based circular economy solutions. DRIVE operates through an integrated pipeline including needs mapping of startup villages and incubators, three two-day roadshow and hackathon events held in France, Slovenia, and Greece that connect founders with investors, corporates and domain experts, and intensive mentoring support. Twelve selected rural teams receive 240 hours of bespoke coaching covering finance, sustainability, business models, pitching and social innovation. The programme aims to nurture startups and SMEs in designated Startup Villages, equipping them with skills, networks and investment pathways to reach market launch while revitalising local communities and contributing to Europe's Green Deal and Circular Economy Action Plan objectives.
